This has been the scene in this far-western Tarai town since eight people, including a senior police officer, were killed by an angry mob on Monday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
People are still struggling to come up with a coherent story line to the events. It will be some time, if at all, before they will be able to put scattered pieces together to answer the key questions: what led to such intense violence against the security forces? What led to the death of an 18-month-old by-stander? And why were the local administration and police so underprepared to tackle the mayhem on Monday when the writing was on the wall?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
“It will perhaps be safe to conclude that police intelligence failed that day and that they were far too late in reacting to the security challenges posed by a big and angry crowd,” said a senior security official. Another question that perhaps will remain a mystery is whether there was infiltration in the largely-Tharu protests.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
In the last couple of days, small groups of locals have begun to huddle in their immediate neighbourhood to make sense of the turn of events. They are also talking of amity and the need to start getting on with their lives. All day Thursday and early on Friday, civil society groups were discussing how a goodwill public rally would help defuse tension.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
But all sides--the Pahadi and Tharu populations, the security forces--acknowledge the underlying tension remains. And that the issue is political and that it needs to be addressed politically.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
“Goodwill rallies are fine but they can only do much,” says Chitra Bahadur Chaudhary, a schoolteacher. “It’s a political problem and needs a political solution. Communal harmony has suffered because the problem is political. You can’t just expect people to come out and hug each other and say, let’s forget the underlying problems.”</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The communal tension in Tikapur, and indeed the larger demand for Tharuhat province in all of Kailali district and beyond, has been festering for a long time. There have been some long-held ‘triggers’ and some fresh ones.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The then CPN (Maoist) swept all six Kailali constituencies in the 2008 Constituent Assembly elections. The Tharu population overwhelmingly voted in favour of the party as they saw it as their champion which would support a separate Tharuhat province in a new federal Nepal.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
By the 2013 elections, there was major disenchantment towards the Maoists. The Tharu vote blocks were deeply divided and many of them had gone back to the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML. In Kailali, the UCPN (Maoist) won only one seat; the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik led by Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar won two, including the constituency where Tikapur is located.</div>

“Forum was seen as a new torch bearer for the Tharus,” said Chaudhary. “The Maoists, like the NC and the UML, were seen as a Pahadi party.” But there was also palpable frustration that the Forum did not have much of a voice in Kathmandu, unlike the Maoists before the 2013 elections.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
When Forum Chairman Gachhadar signed the 16-point agreement supporting an eight-province model without delineation, there was deep disappointment.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
But, there was also a sense that there had to be some kind of a trade-off with the Pahadi stakeholders if the constitution was going to come out at all. There was also expectation that the Tharuhat demand would be addressed when the delineation did take place.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
When the six-province delineation came out and Tharu demands were ignored, the population felt agitated. “But it was the seven-province draft that came soon after that really angered the Tharus,” says Chaudhary. The demand for Akhanda Sudur Paschim, the undivided Far West, and the Karnali region, was met because the seven-province model continued the old power dynamic that maintained the status quo. “Sher Bahadur Deuba (NC), Bhim Rawal (UML) and Lekhraj Bhatta (UCPN-Maoist) were the three dominant leaders in the Far West and the three parties were forced to listen to them,” said Nathuram Chaudhary, a teacher at Tikapur Multiple Campus. In contrast, the Tharus had no powerful representative in Kathmandu who could fight on their behalf. On August 13, there was a cross-party mass rally in Tikapur where leaders from all major Madhes-based parties and the Baidya party addressed the restive Tharu mass. It turned out to be a major trigger for the Monday protests that saw Tharu activists attack the police. Nepali Congress lawmaker Amresh Kumar Singh was the only leader from the ruling parties to address the rally. Both Tharu and Pahadi analysts say that he made provocative remarks against the Nepali state.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
“He [Amresh Singh] made very insensitive and highly inflammatory remarks at the rally,” said Dhirendra Shahi, a school principal in Tikapur. “He basically said, the Bhumiputra (son of the soil) should drive the Pahadi population out. This, more than anything else, instigated the Tharus.”</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The Pahadi population here is especially angry with Singh and Sadbhawana leader Rajendra Mahato, neither of whom is from the Tharuhat region. They believe that Singh and Mahato came here primarily because their attempts to raise a movement in the eastern and central Tarai had failed and they thus desperately needed a Tharu constituency to rise up against Kathmandu. “If we were as aggressive as they were on that day [the August 13 mass rally] there would have been a bloodbath in Tikapur,” said Shahi.</div>

THE EVOLUTION OF THARU ACTIVISM</div>

The rally in Tikapur was led by the Tharu Sangharsha Samiti, a committee under the Kalyankari Sabha, which was started as a social organisation back in the 1960s. Headed now by a Bhairahawa-based engineer Ghaniram Chaudhary, it became politically active in the dying days of the first CA when the Tharus felt that they needed to become politically active so as to pressure the CA to establish a Tharuhat province.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It now has units in 24 districts across the Tarai/inner Tarai--one is in the Capital. “When we saw that the first CA was not able to deliver on the two core principles of federal demarcation--identity and capacity--our movement took a new turn,” recalled Chitra Bahadur. “After the 2013 elections, the Tharus felt hugely sidelined in national politics, including in Tikapur. The bias of the police and administration in favour of Pahadis became even more pronounced.”</div>

In the aftermath of the police killings, properties owned by Tharus, including a TV showroom in Tikapur that belongs to one Shiva Narayan Chaudhary, were set fire. Much of the property vandalised are shops and ghumtis owned by small entrepreneurs like barbers and cycle/bicycle repairmen.</div>

The incidents of arson ceased after the arrival of an Army unit late on Monday. However, there are now fears that a long-standing security presence would lead to harsh treatment of the Tharus, as during the conflict years.</div>

Over 400 Nepal Army personnel currently remain deployed in and around Tikapur, especially in six VDCs that are seen as potential flashpoints.</div>

A NEED FOR CONCILIATION</div>

There is currently an urgent need to repair relations between the Tharu and Pahadi communities. “If the current tension continues,” says Shahi, the school principal, “I fear that an even worse incident could take place.”</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
For this to happen, senior political leaders need to cease their polarising rhetoric and make active efforts at conciliation. The curfew needs to be loosened somewhat so that representatives from the two communities can engage with each other. The longer the curfew continues, the longer will members of each community be ghettoised along with their own, preventing efforts at reconciliation.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
In the medium term, boundaries of federal provinces will have to be revised in such a way as to assuage the fears of both the Tharu and Pahadi communities. Towards that end, senior leaders in Kathmandu as well as leaders in Kailali have to demonstrate a sense of pragmatism. “A durable solution will be possible only when proponents of an undivided Far West develop a more practical and flexible approach in the future,” said Raju Hamal, former district president of FNCCI Kailali. According to some analysts, it should be emphasised that the federal structure will be based both on identity and geography, and not on only one of these two principles.</div>

Needless to say, Nepal’s top leaders will need to consult widely, devise borders with much subtlety and make major efforts to reach out to the population in order to restore harmony in districts like Kailali for the long term.</div>

After the violence in Nepal regarding to federal system, there is like 'Babal' in the country. But there are still some good leaders who wrote against violence and trying to make some social coordination and trying to say people that Single Tribal federal system is not possible and is not the demand of original Nepalese. These Tweets and Facebook status really touches the heart.<br />

Although slavery was outlawed nearly a century ago and the Kamaiya culture was made a criminal offence in 2009, the practice is so ingrained in the Tarai that it is still accepted. In most cases the parents of the girls themselves sell or rent their daughters to landlords in auctions to reduce the burden of having to take care of them.<br />
<br />
Shanta Chaudhary was one of them. At the age of eight, she was leased for Rs 7,000 a year by her parents who had nine other children and sent off to work in a family in Dang. She was homesick, had to work 19 hours a day, and live in the cowshed. When she made mistakes Shanta was rudely reprimanded by the landlord’s wife and sometimes beaten.<br />
<br />
Shanta yearned to wear a clean uniform and go to school like the children in the family she worked for, she wanted to eat rice like them. During the rainy season, when she got sick, there was no one to take care of her and she missed her mother terribly. There were also decent households where she was treated well and she used to go to watch movies with the landlord’s daughter.<br />
<br />
Most kamlari girls face rape and abuse, so when Shanta became a teenager and had to fend off aggressive, unwanted advances from men, she got married to a friend for companionship and to keep herself safe. Her first son is handicapped, her second baby died of undernourishment, and when she tried to break free village goons set fire to her hut.<br />
<br />
Unlike other kamlari girls, Shanta decided to do something about the injustice and became an activist. She joined the UML party and became a nominated member of the Constituent Assembly so she could realise her dream of a Nepal free of the exploitation, discrimination, and abusethousands of other women like her had to suffer.<br />
<br />
After the CA was dissolved, Shanta decided to write about her life. And what a life. Told in simple, heartfelt sentences, you have to fight back tears as you learn of the tragic injustice that little girls like Shanta had to suffer.<br />
<br />
But there is little bitterness or resentment here, only a determination to set things right. Between the lines, you get a glimpse of the fierce fortitude of this remarkable woman.<br />
<br />
Shanta Chaudhary says she was inspired to write her book after reading Jhamak Ghimire’s masterpiece Jeevan Kanda Ki Phool. Struck by polio and confined to a wheelchair, Ghimire wrote her book with her toes and become an inspiration for many Nepali women.<br />
<br />
But even after finding her place in the national legislature, nominated to the powerful parliamentary committee on natural resources, and given a chance to contribute to the new constitution, Shanta was appalled by the way fellow MPs looked down on her for being a Tharu. “Even there, they made fun of my clothes, my accent, and the fact that I was illiterate,” she says, eyes brimming with tears.<br />
<br />
Shanta, now 34, taught herself to read and write while in the CA. And after the assembly was dissolved started writing her book because she feared that despite the laws, indentured servitude of girls from her community would continue. Shanta’s biggest regret is that the new constitution wasn’t passed last year and the CA was dissolved, but she is happy she could take the plight of her people to the highest law-making body in the land.<br />

Shanta Chaudhary’s book, Kamlari Dekhi Sabhasad Samma (From Kamlari To CA Member) adds to a growing corpus of books by inpsiring Nepali women, including Jhamak Ghimire, Radha Poudel, and Tara Rai.<br />

whereas Sarswati Pashi is the member of Sagarmatha Dalit women group of Udharapur VDC of Banke. She is 27 years old and mother of 2 children. Before involvements of group, she felt shy to come out from her house. She didn’t talk with unknown person. She hasn’t knowledge about women and Dalit rights. When Dalit women group formatted by Feminist Dalit Organization (FEDO) in her villages in Kartik 2070.<br />
She takes the place of secretary of her group. In group there is regular meeting and discussion on monthly basis. In discussion FEDO’s staff and representatives taught them about the meaningful and proportional representatives of Dalit women in communities and national level of every sector. So their group discuss the about the position of dalit women in school management committee of Bhanu Ma.Vi. of their community.<br />
At first the election boards try to response them about other women and Dalit candidate in school management committee but this group claim about dalit women inclusion so finally the election board accepted to saraswati Pashi as member of school board for election. She did hard work for election her group member also helped and finally she gets 584 among 8 candidates.<br />

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? The chicken, no the egg, no the chicken, no the egg. It's enough to make your head spin right off your neck. We’ve all been through the logic; most of us end up at the same place. As Luna Lovegood, the dreamy yet dotty witch from Harry Potter put it when asked the riddle, "a circle has no beginning." And indeed, attempting to identify the first case of a circular cause and consequence is an exercise in utter futility. For those who don’t have a pat story involving a divine being who spits out perfectly formed species, it's a no-win situation.<br />

But that doesn’t stop us from asking. Luckily for people kept awake at night by such quandaries, NPR’s Robert Krulwich recently got to the bottom of the dilemma when he, thankfully, stumbled across the video below.<br />
<br />
Basically, many, many moons ago there was a chicken-like bird. It was genetically close to a chicken, but wasn’t a full-blown chicken yet. Krulwich calls it a proto-chicken. So proto-hen laid an egg, and proto-rooster fertilized it. But when the genes from ma and pa almost-chicken fused, they combined in a new way, creating a mutation that accidently made the baby different from its parents. Although it would take millennia for the difference to be noticed, that egg was different enough to become the official progenitor of a new species, now known as … the chicken! So in a nutshell (or an eggshell, if you like), two birds that weren’t really chickens created a chicken egg, and hence, we have an answer: The egg came first, and then it hatched a chicken.<br />

Maybe the question we should be asking is: Which came first, the proto-chicken or the proto-chicken egg?

Teej (Nepali: तीज); (Punjabi: ਤੀਜ (Gurmukhi)), and (Hindi: तीज) is a generic name for a number of festivals that are celebrated in Nepal, Northern and Western India. Haryali Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej welcome the monsoon season and are celebrated primarily by girls and women, with songs, dancing and prayer rituals. The monsoon festivals of Teej are primarily dedicated to Goddess Parvati and her union with Lord Shiva. Teej refers to the monsoon festivals, observed particularly in western and northern states of India and Nepal. The festivals celebrate the bounty of nature, arrival of clouds and rain, greenery and birds with social activity, rituals and customs. The festivals for women, include dancing, singing, getting together with friends and telling stories, dressing up with henna-coloured hands and feet, wearing red, green or yellow clothes, sharing festive foods, and playing under trees on swings on Haryali Teej. The festivals are dedicated, in many parts of India and Nepal, to Parvati. "Teej" refers to the "third" day that falls every month after the new moon (Amavasya), and the third day after the full moon night of every month. The monsoon festivals of Teej include Haryali Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej. Teej festivals are traditionally observed by women to celebrate the monsoons, on the the third day of the Indian month of Shravan, and on the third days of the waning and waxing moon of the Indian month of Bhadrapud. An 11-year old girl who became pregnant after being raped by her stepfather and was denied an abortion by Paraguayan authorities has given birth, in the culmination of a case which put renewed focus on Latin America’s strict anti-abortion laws.<br />

The girl, known by the legal pseudonym “Mainumby”, gave birth to a girl weighing 3.55kg (7.8lbs) at the Reina Sofia maternity hospital, a facility run by the Red Cross in Asunción, Paraguay’s capital. The baby was delivered by Caesarean section as a natural birth was judged to be too dangerous.<br />

Neither the mother nor the child are reported to have experienced any health complications. “It was like any other Caesarean, but with the age difference,” Reina Sofia Director Mario Villalba told local radio. “She’s well and progressing like in any other surgery, but we’ll see afterwards how she gets on as a mother.”<br />

Erika Guevara, Americas director at Amnesty International, said in a statement that Mainumby was “lucky to be alive”, adding that “only time will tell the true extent of the physical and psychological consequences of her tragic ordeal”.<br />
<br />
“The fact that Mainumby did not die does not excuse the human rights violations she suffered at the hands of the Paraguayan authorities, who decided to gamble with her health, life and integrity despite overwhelming evidence that this pregnancy was extremely risky,” she said.<br />
<br />
The case first came to light when the girl’s mother took her to hospital in late April because she had begun to experience swelling and stomach pain. At that point, she was only 10 years old and was already over 20 weeks into her term.<br />
<br />
Her mother had reported as early as January 2014 that her partner was abusing her daughter, but received no response from the authorities. The girl, her two siblings, mother and stepfather shared a rented room in Luque, a town on the outskirts of Asunción.<br />
<br />
After doctors indicated that the girl was pregnant, her mother requested an abortion but Paraguay, where 89% of adults are thought to be Catholic, prohibits the procedure unless the pregnancy threatens the life of the mother.<br />
<br />
Public Health Ministry officials told the Guardian at the time that there was “no reason to interrupt the pregnancy”, and argued that it would be “even more dangerous for the girl to undergo a procedure”.<br />
<br />
Both the girl’s mother and father were arrested, and the girl was taken into the Red Cross hospital.<br />
<br />
Her mother was subsequently released pending further investigation, and has spent the past 10 days at her daughter’s bedside, according to Elizabeth Torales, Mainumby’s lawyer. Torales told press that she would work to place both the girl and her daughter in the custody of her mother.<br />
<br />
The government’s refusal to authorise an abortion, or consider changing the law, earned condemnation from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, UN health officials and women’s rights groups within Paraguay.<br />
<br />
But the authorities refused to change their position, and in the midst of the media storm the country’s most senior bishop used an Independence Day service on 14 May to criticize outside efforts to impose “barbarism, dehumanisation, and a culture of death”.<br />
<br />
When Pope Francis visited the country in July he avoided any mention of the case, instead dwelling on the role played by Paraguay’s women in rebuilding the country after successive wars, calling them the “most glorious in the Americas”.<br />
<br />
The case has also shed light on widespread child abuse in Paraguay. At least 600 girls aged 14 or under become pregnant in Paraguay every year – whose population numbers little more than six million people.<br />
<br />
Villalba said that the Red Cross are currently treating two pregnant 12-year-old girls, as well as many others who had been the victims of sexual abuse by relatives.<br />
<br />
“Unfortunately this case is not unusual for Paraguay, or the region,” Paula Avila-Guillen, advocacy adviser for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Center for Reproductive Rights, said. “It’s something that, very sadly, we see far too often, and that’s due to a lack of access to basic reproductive health services for girls and women, and a lack of understanding of the consequences for a girl of this very young age being forced to carry out a pregnancy.”<br />
<br />
Avila-Guillen said that political and religious conservatism within Paraguay helped explain the government’s refusal to budge on the issue, but noted that devout countries such as Colombia were able to separate the law from religious belief in cases of rape or incest.<br />
<br />
She called on the Paraguayan government to provide “an abortion law that puts women and girls first”, as well as “comprehensive and scientific sexual information and education” for minors.<br />
<br />
“If women and girls feel comfortable about their bodies, know what is appropriate and are comfortable talking to their teachers and parents, they would be able to denounce abuse a lot earlier and feel empowered to say no to abusive situations,” Avila-Guillen argued, adding that free access to adequate contraception is also “fundamental” in preventing unwanted pregnancies.<br />

“What is the future for that girl? What will be her opportunities? Can she stay in school? Can she become an adult and a woman that can decide what kind of life she has? She’s being forced to be an adult when she’s 11 and all her childhood is being put on hold,” she added.<br />

“If they don’t take the necessary steps to protect girls and offer them basic health services, we will keep hearing of these cases,” she concluded.

Teej (Nepali: तीज); (Punjabi: ਤੀਜ (Gurmukhi)), and (Hindi: तीज) is a generic name for a number of festivals that are celebrated in Nepal, Northern and Western India. Haryali Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej welcome the monsoon season and are celebrated primarily by girls and women, with songs, dancing and prayer rituals. The monsoon festivals of Teej are primarily dedicated to Goddess Parvati and her union with Lord Shiva.<br />
Teej refers to the monsoon festivals, observed particularly in western and northern states of India and Nepal. The festivals celebrate the bounty of nature, arrival of clouds and rain, greenery and birds with social activity, rituals and customs.<br />

The festivals for women, include dancing, singing, getting together with friends and telling stories, dressing up with henna-coloured hands and feet, wearing red, green or yellow clothes, sharing festive foods, and playing under trees on swings on Haryali Teej.<br />
<br />
The festivals are dedicated, in many parts of India and Nepal, to Parvati.<br />
"Teej" refers to the "third" day that falls every month after the new moon (Amavasya), and the third day after the full moon night of every month. The monsoon festivals of Teej include Haryali Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej.<br />
<br />
Teej festivals are traditionally observed by women to celebrate the monsoons, on the the third day of the Indian month of Shravan, and on the third days of the waning and waxing moon of the Indian month of Bhadrapud. Women also pray to goddess Parvati seeking the wellness of their husband, children and their own self.

Twenty-six-year-old Nangel Shrepa of Okhaldhunga was hit by a micro bus (Ba 1 Ja 9136) on zebra crossing while the driver behind the wheel lost control of the bus. He later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Model Hospital.<br />

Metropolitan Police Circle Durbarmarg DSP Ramesh Basnet said that the irate students also torched the micro-bus. Police said that the driver has been taken under custody for investigation.<br />

Traffic in the area has now resumed after the brief disruption.

On Sunday’s episode of “Silicon Valley,” the Pied Piper gang are back and meeting with venture capitalists after a lawsuit from their main competitor, Hooli, caused the VC company of the late Peter Gallagher to back out on investing in them.

But there was also a funny subplot during the episode, in which Pied Piper member Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani) tries desperately to sabotage his cousin’s Kickstarter campaign for his app called "Bro."

Bro is a messaging app that lets you send the word “Bro” to everyone else who has the app.

Showing his cousin he's "cool,” Dinesh donated $5,000 to his campaign, but now with Pied Piper's funding in peril, Dinesh doesn't have the money and tries to convince his cousin to halt the campaign.

Bengaluru potholes now appear to be so deep, that they are spawning all kinds of monsters, which well, have the potential to scare the hell out of someone caught unawares.

The latest one to rear its head out of the netherworld of deep, water-filled potholes is an anaconda, with a hand projecting out of its mouth.

In what has now become a series of attempts to embarrass the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike into taking the quality of roads seriously, a civic group in the city has installed an anaconda in Yeshwanthpur.

The Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF), a group working for the betterment of the city came up with the idea to call attention to the problem of water-logging in the city.

It took two days for Chitrakala Parishath graduate Pushparaj to complete the giant snake and install it on Sunday in the Yeshwanthpur market.

“There is humour, art, sarcasm in the craft, but more importantly, there is a deeper message in it that we are trying to deliver,” says Sridhar Pabbisetty, CEO of Namma Bengaluru Foundation.

He says that residents are worried about potholes that are a regular feature on roads due to bad road maintenence and uncoordinated digging by various agencies. The lack of drainage systems has created a rise in diseases like malaria and dengue as stagnant water provides breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Installing the anaconda wasn’t an easy task as local goons tried to intimidate the artist and NBF members. Sridhar says that the goons stamped on the artwork and damaged it, but the presence of media forced them to retreat. The police requested the team to relocate the artwork.

The installation drew the attention of passers-by, especially the children who were fascinated by a giant anaconda lying in the middle of busy market area. Many engaged with the team, showing interest in participating in debates and discussion to solve Bengaluru’s problems, he adds.

On social media too, people were rather helpful with suggestions – several people said that there was plenty of scope for hippopatmuses, dinosaurs and even a Loch Ness monster to live comfortably in the gigantic water-filled pot-holes.

“There has been an overwhelming demand for anacondas and people are giving locations across the city for such installations,” says Sridhar.

Earlier, artist Baadal Nanjundaswamy had created a crocodile on a pothole, later floated paper boats on huge craters on the road.

But none are as intriguing as the discovery of a 'woman'  'with long hair and a dress' by a blogger who has written extensively about the woman in a blog, unsurprisingly called UFO Sightings Daily. Before you read further, have a long and clear look at the photograph below, released by Nasa as part of a series of high-resolution images captured by Curiosity.
What do you see? A clear picture of Mars' surface, the rocky terrain maybe? Can you spot anything unusual?

Look again. The encircled area is where the 'woman' stands, according to UFO Sightings Daily.
In a post titled 'A strange woman walking on Mars? News intriguing images of Mars are discussed on the Internet', the writer elaborates on the vision, writing, "It seems there is a woman standing on top of a cliff, with long hair, wearing a dress, watching the Jeep probe. Just above, it appears an impression that leads to something similar to a manhole with a lever at the top. And next, it is something that looks like a small building or a tent. Logo on your left, there seems to be a painting on the wall (a greeting?)." These points are illustrated with zoomed and highlighted images the apparent shapes.
The  'Woman on Mars' images were to quick to go viral with some speculating about its authenticity while most joked about the unlikeliness of signs of life on Mars, much less humanoid signs.
While the internet debates (and jokes) about the woman who made it to Mars, the whole idea seems to be more like a Rorschach test — 'What can you see in the image'? Some may see a rock protrusion, others a shadow and maybe some will see the apparition. So, what do you see?

Teej (Nepali: तीज); (Punjabi: ਤੀਜ (Gurmukhi)), and (Hindi: तीज) is a generic name for a number of festivals that are celebrated in Nepal, Northern and Western India. Haryali Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej welcome the monsoon season and are celebrated primarily by girls and women, with songs, dancing and prayer rituals. The monsoon festivals of Teej are primarily dedicated to Goddess Parvati and her union with Lord Shiva.
Teej refers to the monsoon festivals, observed particularly in western and northern states of India and Nepal. The festivals celebrate the bounty of nature, arrival of clouds and rain, greenery and birds with social activity, rituals and customs.

The festivals for women, include dancing, singing, getting together with friends and telling stories, dressing up with henna-coloured hands and feet, wearing red, green or yellow clothes, sharing festive foods, and playing under trees on swings on Haryali Teej.

The festivals are dedicated, in many parts of India and Nepal, to Parvati.
"Teej" refers to the "third" day that falls every month after the new moon (Amavasya), and the third day after the full moon night of every month. The monsoon festivals of Teej include Haryali Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej.

Teej festivals are traditionally observed by women to celebrate the monsoons, on the the third day of the Indian month of Shravan, and on the third days of the waning and waxing moon of the Indian month of Bhadrapud. Women also pray to goddess Parvati seeking the wellness of their husband, children and their own self.

We've seen some highly-portable electric vehicles before, including diminutive scooters and skateboards. Cocoa Motors' new WalkCar, however, makes those gizmos look huge. It's used more or less like a Segway, but it's not much bigger than a laptop.

The WalkCar has four tiny wheels, an aluminum body, and is intended to be carried in an included bag when not in use.

Steering is achieved by shifting your weight, while acceleration and braking happen automatically when you step on or off. Its top speed is 10 km/h (6.2 mph) and its built-in battery takes three hours to charge via USB, providing a range of 12 km (7.5 miles).

Although it looks pretty puny, the WalkCar is reportedly powerful enough to push a person in a wheelchair up an incline, and it can handle payloads weighing up to 120 kg (265 lb).

We've reached out to its Japan-based designer for more details, but are still waiting to hear back. One thing we do know, however, is that it's slated to be the subject of a Kickstarter campaign beginning in October. It's hoped that a production model will be out by next spring (Northern Hemisphere), priced at around 100,000 yen (about US$800).

The Ministry of Agricultural Development on Monday informed the Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Resource Committee that the country may lose an estimated Rs25 billion from paddy crop this year if eight Tarai districts in the eastern and central regions continue to suffer from poor rainfall for two more weeks.

The eight districts—Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa—have been hit hard by late and insufficient rainfall this year, with average paddy transplantation of just 40 percent of the combined 326,501 hectares of land.

Poor plantation in these districts has pulled down the national average plantation to 73.7 percent as of August 7. Paddy is cultivated on 1.42 million hectares. Normally, the Tarai districts have a spill-over period until mid-August. In some cases, paddy can be planted till early September.

In the same period last year, transplantation in these Tarai districts were completed on 53 percent of the fields. The transplantation rate was at 95 percent as of August 7 in 2013-14.

“If the water shortage problem persists, the country could lose paddy worth Rs 25 billion this year,” Yogendra Karki, joint-secretary at the Agriculture Ministry told the lawmakers on Monday. “Losses in the eight rain-deficit districts could hover around Rs12 billion if the rain situation does not improve.”

The country had produced paddy worth Rs100 billion in fiscal year 2014-15. Paddy output dropped 5.1 percent to 4.78 million tonnes last year due to late monsoon and untimely rainfall. The ministry had estimated a loss of Rs5 billion last year.

As the situation is likely to aggravate this year too and could result food insecurity, the Parliamentary committee on Monday directed the Ministry of Irrigation to study the feasibility of solar-powered shallow tube well facilities in the Tarai districts that have been suffering water deficit during the key paddy plantation season for a long time.

The committee has directed the Irrigation Ministry to coordinate with the Ministry of Agricultural Development and the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre to conduct the feasibility of the solar-powered irrigation system in Nepal.

Water shortage is a persistent problem in these districts. Droughts are expected to strike there, triggering fears of a famine. Agro experts said drought and soaring temperatures have left farmlands in the districts with extensive cracks and even the transplanted paddy seedlings have turned yellow.

According to Karki, the ministry has requested the Finance Ministry to allocate an additional budget for the programme to install additional shallow tube well in the affected districts. The ministry has also decided to expedite its “system of rice intensification” and “direct seedling rice” system in the affected districts.

Agro experts said the economic outlook for the next year is bleaker amid weak monsoon forecasts. Agriculture, the major contributor to Nepal’s economy, is mainly rain-fed. In 2011-12, paddy production rose an impressive 13.7 percent, and as a result, the farm sector’s growth rate swelled to 4.63 percent.

However, in 2012-13, paddy output dropped 11.3 percent and the economic growth rate slumped to a six-year low of 3.5 percent.

Nepal’s economy inched up just 3 percent in the last fiscal year due to the April 25 earthquake and a drop in paddy production.

An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the perceptible shaking of the surface of the Earth, which can be violent enough to destroy major buildings and kill thousands of people. The severity of the shaking can range from barely felt to violent enough to toss people around. Earthquakes have destroyed whole cities. They result from the sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. The seismicity, seismism or seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size of earthquakes experienced over a period of time.

Earthquakes are measured using observations from seismometers. The moment magnitude is the most common scale on which earthquakes larger than approximately 5 are reported for the entire globe. The more numerous earthquakes smaller than magnitude 5 reported by national seismological observatories are measured mostly on the local magnitude scale, also referred to as the Richter magnitude scale. These two scales are numerically similar over their range of validity. Magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes are mostly almost imperceptible or weak and magnitude 7 and over potentially cause serious damage over larger areas, depending on their depth. The largest earthquakes in historic times have been of magnitude slightly over 9, although there is no limit to the possible magnitude. The most recent large earthquake of magnitude 9.0 or larger was a 9.0 magnitude earthquake in Japan in 2011 (as of March 2014), and it was the largest Japanese earthquake since records began. Intensity of shaking is measured on the modified Mercalli scale. The shallower an earthquake, the more damage to structures it causes, all else being equal.[1]

At the Earth's surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and sometimes displacement of the ground. When the epicenter of a large earthquake is located offshore, the seabed may be displaced sufficiently to cause a tsunami. Earthquakes can also trigger landslides, and occasionally volcanic activity.

In its most general sense, the word earthquake is used to describe any seismic event — whether natural or caused by humans — that generates seismic waves. Earthquakes are caused mostly by rupture of geological faults, but also by other events such as volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear tests. An earthquake's point of initial rupture is called its focus or hypocenter. The epicenter is the point at ground level directly above the hypocenter.

Nitish launches Shabd Wapsi campaign against Modi's DNA barb

Nitish Kumar  on Monday announced the launch of "Shabd Wapsi" campaign, demanding that the Prime Minister take back his 'DNA' remark and signalling the issue will be a key plank in the assembly polls.<br />
Taking their antagonism a step further, Kumar said 50 lakh people will participate in a signature campaign and also send their DNA samples to the Prime Minister for tests.<br />
"In spite of our repeated pleas Modiji hasn't retracted his derogatory remarks on our DNA, we're going to launch #TakeBackYourWords," Kumar tweeted.<br />
"Modiji's DNA remark is an insult to Bihar and its people.<br />
In democracy, people are supreme. Now the matter will be decided in people's court," he said on Twitter, making it clear that the issue will not be put to rest anytime soon and will be flagged by him in the run up to the elections likely in October-November.<br />
The Chief Minister said the matter will be taken to "every nook and corner" and his party JD(U) will also organise 4-5 "Swabhiman rallies" to highlight the issue.<br />
"Modiji's stubbornness in not taking back his DNA remark and then calling Bihar a BIMARU state and its people unfortunate is distressing," he said in another tweet.<br />
Kumar had joined issue with the Prime Minister yesterday after the latter vowed to remove Bihar's BIMARU (laggard) tag at an NDA rally in Gaya.<br />
"Bihar's growth rate, performance on social indices like education and health care present a picture which does not show it is a laggard state," Kumar had said, hitting back at Modi.<br />
He had recently written an 'open letter' to Modi demanding that he take back his DNA remark made at a rally in Bihar's Muzaffarpur town last month.<br />
"Your comments on my DNA at a rally recently has left me and a large section of society deeply hurt. Not just people of Bihar, but even those living outside the state have felt insulted by the choice of your words," he had said.<br />
Despite clarifications by several BJP leaders that Modi had spoken about Kumar "political DNA", the Chief Minister and his ally RJD boss Lalu Prasad have linked it to "Bihari pride", which they insist has been hurt.
